Who are we?
Our story begins when two teenagers who didn’t know each other, one in Georgia and one in Texas, both responded to Jesus when He called them to “do what He wanted them to do and go where He wanted them to go.”
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Agricultural Economics, Daniel spent two years as a missionary in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Growing up as a farm boy in south Georgia, Daniel had no idea that hunting in Africa was possible.
He was ready to give up even his love for hunting when he followed the Lord to Africa. But in a beautiful surprise, God returned to Daniel what he had so willingly sacrificed, and Daniel fell in love with hunting in Africa.
Returning to America to go to seminary, he also fell in love with Sky and after he completed a Master of Divinity degree, we moved to Zambia in 2004 as career missionaries with the IMB.
At the remote edge of civilization, we set up a tent between the Zambezi River and the Angolan border. That “Sam’s Club” tent would be our home for the next 18 months as Daniel built our tree house on stilts.
For 10 years, we battled crocodiles, hippos, elephants and the spiritual forces which did not want the Lozi to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. We taught and prayed fervently.
We also enjoyed an occasional hunting holiday and feasted on our “organic, free-range, hormone-free, grass-fed, hand-processed meat!”
In 2014, with three babies in tow, we moved to a small farming town in South Africa. In 2017, we relunctantly moved out of the African bush to the capital city of Pretoria, South Africa.
Here, with our children River Belle (16), Country (14), Savanna (12), we have planted our lives as missionaries, focused on evangelism and discipleship in house churches.
We have recently retired from the IMB, but we can never retire from what the Lord has called us to… to be bold witnesses and faithful disciples for Him.
For the past 22 years, we have marveled at the amazing animals in the African bush. We have enjoyed hunting with our children and teaching them to process the meat around the table on our back porch.
We joyfully share our game meat with our ministry partners and national believers. Meet244 is our new avenue to be more intentional with what we are already doing.
American hunters coming to South Africa are faced with the issue that they cannot return to America with the meat they have harvested. They don’t want it to go to waste.
South African ministry workers and the orphans and widows they help eat meat only about once a week. Protein is a rare luxury. But it doesn’t have to be.
By supporting Meet244, you are helping meet people’s needs for meat! Our national partners and the people they care for need meat for strong minds and bones.
They also need what Scripture calls “meat” (and not milk) for their souls. Through Meet 244, we can meet both needs with the hunters’ meat!
